The George W. Bush Presidential Library, the 13th presidential library administered by the National Archives and Records Administration, will house the official records of the presidency of George W. Bush.

Held within the Bush Library will be:

  • More than 60 million pages of paper records covering a vast array of policy topics
  • More than 42,000 artifacts including gifts from heads-of-state
  • More than 4 million photographs along with a host of other audio–visual materials
  • 80 terabytes of electronic information, including more than 200 million emails, making this by far the largest electronic records collection held by any presidential library
  • The recordings and transcripts of interviews with senior Bush Administration officials collected through an oral history project conducted in partnership with the University of Virginia's Miller Center of Public Affairs

The Library will preserve and make these records available for future generations of historians, scholars, students, and interested citizens.

Using the archives as its foundation, the George W. Bush Presidential Library serves an important educational mission of informing Americans about critical public policy issues and, fundamentally, about how their government works.

The Freedom Collection

The Freedom Collection is a central feature of the Human Freedom initiative at the George W. Bush Institute. It is an active, living archive that documents the struggle for democracy and human freedom around the world through the personal stories of men and women who have led or participated in freedom movements. Using video interviews, artifacts, collected papers, and other materials, the Freedom Collection strives to inspire and provide insight to the current generations of freedom advocates, expanding access to information and successful strategies for change.

The Freedom Collection also reinforces for Americans and others living in free societies the moral and practical importance of supporting pro-democracy movements, remaining actively engaged in the world, and safeguarding our own foundations of liberty. It can be accessed online through an interactive website beginning March 2012 or visited in person after the official opening of the George W. Bush Presidential Center.
